Vrtual jobs–work from home? Virtual Assistant?
I have been diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse & Aura migraines that disable me on a daily basis, usually in the morning. MVP is a condition where a valve in the heart pumps blood backwards triggering excessive adrenaline which causes heart palpitations, shortness of breath, shakiness, anxiety, lack of concentration and vertigo. The vertigo restricts me from walking and seeing straight and usually triggers an aura migraine, which brings on tunnel vision and the symptoms of fainting. I have been treated with medications such as Inderal, Zoloft, Depakote, Periactin that were unsuccessful. I’ve tirelessly pursued new work but my condition repeatedly prevents me from normalcy.
I need to find a job that I can work from home. I am desperately seeking something legit. When you go searching even on craigslist its hard to determine what’s a real job. I’m looking for something administrative. I’m good with computers, phones, all admin duties and have been a personal assistant for years.
I cannot afford to pay for anything as I hardly can pay for food. A lot of home based businesses require a fee. A virtual assistant position would be best but I’m open for anything that is legit and from home.

I work from home as a virtual assistant. I am certified, licensed & bring in enough money to cover half the bills. I also pet sit every day which brings in a few hundred dollars a month. On top of this I run my own mobile car wash & handle all the administration for that. I also take night classes because I’m trying to get my business administration degree. Oh yeah and I completely take care of the house. My entire family doesn’t take what I do seriously. They accuse me of playing online all day, not having a “real” job & making my husband work to pay my bills when its nothing like that. Im trying to relocate to be closer to them & the other day my mother says well you know if you relocate you’ll have to get a real job you can’t just sit at home playing online all day. I am really offended & sick of explaining myself. They just write off what I do as playing when I work harder than I ever did at a 9-5 job. I could be making millions & they still wouldn’t validate it. Why do they think that because I work from home that I don’t do anything?
Why does my family think “work from home” means I play online all day?
There are many legitimate jobs out there that while they don’t cost anything to get started, you do need to have the proper office set up. You need things like an extra phone line just for business plus a fax machine and in some cases, other items. This is for jobs like Virtual Assistant and the like.
I’ve been unemployed for a year and half so I don’t have much money. I have tried finding all kinds of work almost everywhere and haven’t got much opportunities. I thought about trying working from home but most legitimate opportunities are slow to make money with or I need certain equipment.
I don’t do well with selling or advertising or anything like that and I don’t want jobs that make people bother their family or friends to try stuff or read stuff.
Is there any advice for me?

My bf & I have been together 4 yrs. I lost my job & even though we started our own small business things have been terrible for us. He almost lost his job & when he didn’t so many other people did that now he works 11 hour days 6 days a week covering for them so he’s ALWAYS exhausted & in a bad mood. Both of our cars have had major issues, 3 of our family dogs died (one distemper, one hit by a car that ran off the road, one of old age) we both have gained weight & I can’t find a full time job that will bring in enough money. We have our business but it’s impossible to do it successfully b/c he works 11 hour days & it takes both of us. I am a pet sitter, a virtual assistant & I wash cars on the side to help bring in extra money but it’s never enough. He is always snappy & complaining that there is never enough $$, we fight every day & we just got a letter telling us our rent is going up $100 a month. Our family lives across the country. The economy is better there, the housing cheaper & our family is there. He talks about moving in a positive way but when it comes to making any plans he gets annoyed & tells me we don’t have enough $$ to move & then starts talking about signing up for another year at our complex hoping things will get better. He’s been at his job for 6 years & is scared to death to leave it b/c he thinks they can’t live w/o him. I know better & I’m scared we’re going to lose each other if we don’t get out of here. All we do is fight & I know we could relax & breathe a little in an area with higher pay & lower cost of living. He doesn’t want any part of it but I’ve been ready to go for over a year. What can I do??

Mitral valve is when a valve in my heart pumps backwards and for me I feel a very hard pounding and sometimes it pumps a bit faster than normal which makes my breath hard to catch. This always triggers a response of my adrenal gland. The doctors told me that the heart prolapse triggers my adrenal gland to over produce adrenaline. This makes me very dizzy to where its very hard to focus and I can barely walk. I have had this happen in a car before and the dizziness impairs me from driving. Usually all of this causes me to have a migraine and then I’m not well for hours and sometimes days.
Doctors recently told me that I should work around this because there is no pill that will make it go away. I have had all sorts of misdiagnosed medicines through the years because doctors did not know exactly what it was at first. I had cardiologists have me on Inderol and other palpitation medications. I had neurologists put me on Zoloft and every kind of anxiety type medication which I was taken off of because it didn’t seem to be helping for years. The whole “spell” that I like to call it usually happens as soon as I open my eyes in the morning but can happen throughout the whole day. It always happens when anything changes in my body. If I’m sick with the flu/cold or menstruating it happens even more. Doctors say its triggered when anything is off in my body. We have tried eating as soon as I wake up, different sleep patters, different diet, exercise and been tested to see if its low blood sugar. One thing I think could be related is my spine. I have sculiosis (curvature of the spine) and my back seems to be out a lot. Back and neck pain. I would go to a chiropractor but I do not have the finances to do so.
I am a very hard worker and have had experience as a personal assistant & sales & am currently a piano teacher with less than a handful of students. I like to think I am reliable because I want to work but my condition makes it impossible to get to work sometimes. This has caused a vicious cycle of me being the perfect worker until I have had too many sick days and I end up finding something else because it is unfair to my employer who needs someone to work. Luckily I have never been fired over it but it has definitely put hinderances on my life, goals, and finances. At the moment I have less than $10 & no proper clothing but my poor fiance is helping with food. My car payment is on hold and my parents are unable to help me in any way. I am in the process of trying to find a legit home job where I can make regular money like $200-300 a week. Its hard to find a legit home based job that you do not have to invest in. I just found out there are virtual assistants that work from home though. I am looking into it but even though I’m in Los Angeles its a hard position to come by.
A couple of years ago I applied for disability and got rejected because I didn’t have recent pay stubs. A lot of my jobs were personal assistant jobs so I didn’t have record of work. I have record now but I’m unsure if I would qualify. The regulation I believe is that you need to report the disability as it happens, so since mine started so long ago I’m not sure I can be accepted because I have worked with my condition. My doctor records are from years ago so I’m not sure if I would have to have new ones. I do not have health insurance at this time.
So I am asking what government programs, benefits would I qualify for? What should I do? If anyone has any thoughts, ideas, questions or comments please share them. I need help! Thank you for reading through this.
