What do you think of President Obama’s pragmatic approach in Copenhagen? Is he doing enough to fight global?

This has been bugging me for years.Baseboard heaters seem to suck up the electricity (and money) and provide relatively little warmth for the cost.Is there a better way? Given the various heat sources, what gives the best BTU value for the dollar? Seriously, this cannot be too hard to figure out.

what is more efficient in an apartment: electric baseboard heaters or portable, radiant oil heaters?

We’ve invented satellites, microwaves, cellphone towers, telephone lines, and more.Do you think nature contains an element that could be used for worldwide communication? At first, solar power comes to mind. But how could that be used to communicate? Have we failed to notice a natural energy source that could replace WiFi as we know it? Your thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

If we could communicate using a natural energy source, what would it be – and how could it be done?

http://www.wired.com/science/planetearth/magazine/16-07/ff_geoengineering? currentPage=all So, the basic premise here is that rather than trying to combat global warming by taking extensive and ubiquitious measures throughout the economy, ecosystems, and personal lives to curb CO2 emissions, methane emissions, and other greenhouse gases, that we simply look to permanent solutions to climate problems in the form of geoengineering. The fact of the matter is, we’re equipped with abundant supplies of simple sets of gases that are well known to have global warming and global cooling effects. So why not just balance it out – build a global thermostat so we don’t have to worry about having as small a footprint as possible, but rather simply be aware of it, and account for it? This here’s the kind of stuff that gets me interested :) Really, a big part of why I got into science and a central part of my current career is based in a fascination with nuclear fusion as a power source. That stemmed from frustration with what I saw as a widespread reaction to problems with current technologies to retreat from them – people didn’t like carbon emissions or soot or nuclear waste, so the solution was a bizarrely Amish drive to run back to our windmills and solar mirrors, and try to hide humanity amongst nature out of fear that we’d leave a mark.Nuclear fusion is a forward-thinking solution, rather than a backward one – a new power source that’s even more advanced and is simply engineered not to have those problems.SO2 seeding strikes me as a similar idea with greenhouse gases.Rather than addressing the problem with a retreat that’s not only technophobic and regressive but actually completely ineffective (if we’re actually afraid of global warming, even a complete zero-carbon society wouldn’t solve it – the carbon’s already in the atmosphere, and it’s got a several-century halflife. If we want to solve it, we have to REVERSE carbon emissions, not just reduce or even stop them). It’s a way forward – it’s a way to solve problems by mastering nature, not hiding from it, which is something that inherently strikes me as the way to go.What do you guys think about it? Robert C, you’re probably thinking H2SO4, which actually is sulfuric acid, but doesn’t acquire the properties we typically think of as ‘acidic’ until it’s exposed to water.SO2 in the troposphere, through a long series of chemical reactions, can ultimately lead to a noticeable amount of acid rain if emitted in heavy concentrations. But the relatively low amount of SO2 necessary to trigger global cooling in the stratosphere, combined with the fact that it’s the stratosphere (where there are very few clouds and not anywhere near the chemical complexity of the troposphere) makes acid rain a negligible consideration.”SO2 (and SO3) is tightly regulated because it causes acid rain like it’s going out of style. They had a lot of problems with acid rain in the earlier parts of the industrial revolution before they figured out what was going on and started regulating it.” True, sort of.There are a couple of important differences between an industrial-revolution smokestack town and SO2 stratospheric seeding.SO2 really doesn’t cause acid rain “like it’s going out of style;” it becomes a concern only if you have a ridiculous amount of it concentrated in a small part of the troposphere (where it gets tossed around reactively and rained down rapidly). That’s an inch and a mile from a non-ridiculous amount of it spread over the entire stratosphere.Particulate matter solutions are interesting as well – the concern there is picking something that neither ends up as soot nor is impossible to extract from the atmosphere.SO2’s just elegant – it’s abundant, tested, and reversible.Johno, that’s actually an idea that’s been proposed seriously before (by Edward Teller, of Manhattan Project fame). He didn’t literally propose nuclear war, but he did propose using fission bombs as a means of propelling enough particle matter into the stratosphere to act as a cooling shade. While I’m actually not as opposed to the idea as most people I think would be, the idea of deliberately setting off nukes to intentionally pollute the atmosphere is something that I think is simply politically impossible.

Change of topic: how would you feel about pumping SO2 into the stratosphere to reverse global warming?

I am needing to quit background acting because I am moving up the scale slightly and would like to focus more on commercials and stuff that means something.I want to audition more but background is my main source of income, any ideas on a good job?

Any good ideas of a job that pays decent but has a very flexible schedule so that I can audition frequently?

so when i have my macbook plugged in, it works just fine and says that the battery is 98% charged.if i remove the chord, the computer just shuts off until i plug it in again and push the power button.it worked just fine until today (i’ve had it a little over a year) and i have no idea what could be causing this.please help and thanks

When I Disconnect My Macbook From the Power Source It Shuts Off, Can Anybody Help?

Ok.well i have to do a works cited page for my english essay and how do you write a website source in MLA format?

How would you cite this?

It’s a huge LCD TFT monitor which is about 4 feet away (on a desk) from the air vent (on ground). The vent is closed, but some hot air can still come through.I put a pillow over it, which gets a bit warm at times. Is the monitor safe? Manual says to keep monitor away from heat sources: air vents, etc.

Is this a safe distance of LCD monitor from air vent?

I’m using light bulbs for light as well as a heat source. Thanks!

Do clear light bulbs give off more heat than soft light bulbs?

The assignment is to take a specific historical event in American history and examine its political, social, economic, and cultural impact on the period during which it occurred.the event i chose: The hiring of Jackie Robinson by the Brooklyn Dodgers The paper has to be 5-6 pages double space with one inch margins all around. It is a research paper and must have a thesis as well.im not looking for someone to do the paper for me i just need a boost PS english isnt really my thing especially not writing about a topic.i am very good at verbal presentation but putting it on paper is a huge challenge.Maybe an outline or any great sources would be greatly appreciated.
