WHO FELT THAT EARTHQUAKE RIGHT NOWWWw!!!! IN LA CALIFORNIA?
I’m writing a novel where the Big One hits offshore and sends a tsunami towards LA. I need to know the closest distance (approx.) the epicenter would have to be out to sea to send a sizable tsunami back to the city. I don’t want the quake to take place elsewhere. It has to be a Californian quake.
How far out to sea (from LA) would a large earthquake have to be to send a tsunami back towards LA?

Spanish Paragraph editing about Chile earthquake.?
First Haiti, then Guatemala, then Chile, now California:
An earthquake rumbled early Saturday off the northern California coast and dozens of people in Humboldt County reported feeling it, the U. S. Geological Survey said.
The 4.6-magnitude temblor hit at 12:46 a. m. and was centered in the Pacific Ocean about 30 miles west of Ferndale.
USGS geophysicist Randy Baldwin said the temblor was lightly felt in area cities such as Eureka and Ferndale but wasn’t strong enough to cause damage.
“Ferndale felt it the most,” he said. http://www. latimes. com/news/local/la-mew-earthquake-northern-california6-2010mar06,0,5397081.story? track=rss

I grew up in Norther California and went to Graduate School in LA, so I have been through a lot of shakies, but these two were wayyy different from anything I experienced in California.

I want to say, “I fear there will be an earthquake in the U. S. like the one in Haiti.”
The two choices I’m pondering are:
1. Temo que haya un terremoto en los estados unidos como la de Haiti.”
2. Temo que habra un terremoto en los estados unidos como la de Haiti.”
My grammar background says to go with #1, but that sounds to my (non-native) ear like someone saying “I’m afraid that there is (now) an earthquake in the U. S.” which is not the meaning I want.
In your answer, please give me your educational background or whether you’re a native speaker.
Thanks a lot!
Should I use “haya” or “habra” in this Spanish sentence?
